Hey all,

Does anyone know what aspect ratios are used throughout the UI, like in residents' profiles, picks and First Life photos? I've found all these to be different, but can't figure out the exact proportions and would like it if I could make any such texture not look squashed or distorted when placed there.

Thanks in advance.

In your profile, classifieds and the like...use the "golden ratio" rule. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_ratio

Actually...for those...use something slightly less elongated than the "golden rectangle."

1st life pic: square
Group pic: square

Hell...I don't know...I eye-ball it essentially.

If you really want it exact, take a screen-shot of the precise UI window you are aiming for. Blow that up in Photoshop, and crop it to the window only. Now you have something that is the exact aspect ratio of that particular window. Compose your picture, and crop it to the same dimensions as the screen-shot of the window. Then re-size the photo to the nearest values for X and Y from the choices 32, 64, 128, 256, 512 or 1024. Import that texture as a .tga (24-bit), and apply it to the window. It will look great. It doesn't matter of this squashes or streaches the pic a bit in the imported texture, because the imported texture will distort the other direction when applied to the UI window.
