Designing "traditional" clothes from various cultures?

It's only been ten days or so that I've really taken an interest to designing clothes (by this, I of course mean more than just playing with the basic colors and settings), and I'm not that experienced in it yet, nor do I know a very wide range of what's currently availble on the SL "market"... thus, apologies if this is "easy" info I simply didn't happen to find yet.

I've begun to work on a little project of mine, and it got me to wonder... are there people here that work or have worked - not necessarily intensively, but at least once already - on "traditional/folk clothing" (from any culture in the world)? Such as "traditional dance costume from country X", etc?

I know it may not be the easiest thing to do, and it doesn't need to be 100% accurate clothing either - the design system has some limitations after all. I'm just curious, as of now, if there's anyone in SL that liks designing such types of clothes. or if, simply, there's any interest in that here :)

so far as I know, no one is doing anything like this -- but I personally LOVE the idea. I've done work I consider "inspired" by various cultures, but nothing trying to recreate various traditional costumes specifically. I say go for it! It sounds like a very hand niche :).

It sounds like an interesting idea. One I had contemplated more in the historical period costuming sense. By all means go for it. SL needs more cultural diversity when it comes to clothing. I've done alot of Asian inspired clothing recently from using traditional fabrics in modern design and also a clothing line based on tokyo street fashions.

I've started to give it a try, yes :) It's not that easy though... not easy at all. I've given a shot at more "regular" clothing, such as little tops and skirts, and they're honestly less of a headache for the moment.

It's interesting in itself, however, that it's not a niche that has attracted many people? (Yes I said "traditional", but "historical clothing" can probably fit into this category as well). At least regarding other type of clothing I've seen around (priest, etc), I'd have thought I wasn't the only one. But... more uniqueness to me then I assume ;)

Thanks for the answers, in any case!

Oh, and what kind of clothes would the "Asian-inspired ones" be? Do you have a shop in world where they can be seen?

They are in my prime store location Indigo's Mourning After as well as some of my other spots on the Women's Mix & Match wall by Deadly Nightshade and the Tokyo Retro wall.

Good luck on your endeavor. Making themed lines can be frustrating at best especially if you need to make prim attachments for them to look right.

I saw that... prim attachments aren't one of my strong points yet, but thanks to a little trip to the Ivory Tower, this is starting to get behind me.

I'll try to go have a look at the store when I log in again, later on today or tomorrow. Thanks!
