I really enjoy making clothes. I use Photoshop 6 at the moment. But when I try to make anything, I seem to be restricted by the 512X512 limit on the texture. I understand that there has to be a limit to make it equitable for use, but I see lots of clothes that don't look choppy on the edges... as if they use a different resolution. Is that so? I have so many ideas but need help in this one thing. Please help.

Choppy around which edges? The sleeve ends, collar, midriff? Or along the sides where the front joins the back?

Dave- You can draw in any resolution you want to. You only need to resize to 512 to upload. This is to speed rezzing on the clients computer. I think it was Robin or chosen who said recently that anything above 512 does no good to improve details and only take up more bandwidth.

The jagged edges on clothing can be handled with masks, alpha channel and using a hard edge brush on the neck lines and sleeve edges. I usually use a 1 or 2 pixel pencil or use a path and stroke it with the pencil.

There are several past threads, in which this has been discussed. You might want to try doing a search to find them.

Hope this helps,

Jen

Cottonteil, its seems to pixelate along the edge of anything I do. I have seen a bikini top that pixelates on the outer edge of the top, it looks like its blocky. but I have also seen very nice tops, ie, Mischief's golf shirts. they don't pixelate at all, in fact, the detail is very fine in it. If it pixelates at the edge, I can't find it.

Also, some of the designs that are used for the fabrics are so fine in detail, its hard to believe that they were downloaded in 512x512 resolution.

I did a Thong bottom, and the string was only 3-5 pixels, and I had to do two colors on the string. It just looked choppy, and was difficult to get the alpha channel right on it.

But I will take your advice, Jen, and go through the past threads, and look over any tutorals I can find.

If anyone else has any other advice, please post it, it would be appreciated.

Thanks
