Hi - i have read a lot of the stuff on the forums about translucency but just cant seem to get it to work. I can create transparency using the alpha channels (in paintshop) but dont know how to physically put the grey colour in to make the material of the top i am creating translucent rather than transparent. (whilst obviously keeping the outside of the clothes transparent)

If any one could help i would really appreciate it (and it would stop my husband and i pulling our hair out! lol)

You need to put the grey in the alpha channel for the image, not in the image itself. This will make that area in the image translucent.

thanks very much for the reply - that is what i suspected i had to do but cant figure out how to do it :(

If anyone could tell me how to change the alpha channel colours i will love them forever! lol

Also - is it possible to keep the parts of the alpha channel u want transparent black and then also have grey areas for the part u want translucent?

If you're using PSP, then you can't work directly on the alpha channel itself. Instead, you need to work on a mask, which will serve as a proxy for what will in the end become the alpha channel. The instructions for creating a mask in PSP are in the tutorial in the Transparency Guide at the top of this forum.

On the mask, you can use all the same brushes, filters, tools, etc., that you're used to using on everything else. So, if you want part or all of it to be gray, simply paint it gray. Once that's done, go Layers -> Load/Save Mask -> Save Mask To Alpha Channel. Your alpha channel is now in place, and ready for use. Delete the mask, export the image to TGA, and upload it to SL.

If you find the transparency values are not to your liking, you can always change them by copying the alpha channel back to a mask, making your changes to the mask, and then saving the mask back to the alpha channel. Instructions to do this are also in the Transparency Guide.
