how is this done, is it purely with texture tricks eg : painting the shine, or is there some other way? thanks

It's all in the painting. SL does not support shine on avatars. Hopefully when we get the material shader system that will eventually replace the current texture system, that will change. For now, love your paint brush.

Latex especially, really tricky =) Just paint the highlights as they would look when under a bright source of light. Sure, your highlights will be there even when its nighttime, or the sun's behind you... but I dont think anyone cares =)

I have a pair of pants that are shiney, latex like, can't remeber where I ppurchased them. But yes they just seemed to have taken a glossy fabric and just added like a white highlight around the areas that would curve I.E. buttocks. Hope that helps a little *smiles*

I make a LOT of shiny leather and latex looks.. I use dodge and burn constantly in Photoshop. If ya want, come take a look at my Second Skin Leather Collection...i've been told they're the best in SL ;) You'll get the idea of what dodge and burn can do.
