Hiya

This is perhaps a silly question but it's something that has bugged me for a while.

In many shops etc the floors are shiny and also reflect the walls, sky etc. How is this done?

The floor is most probably semi transparent with a replica of the prims above ground under the transparent floor and flipped upside down.

Great tecnique for simulating reflections, but makes items prim heavy because you in essance using twice as many prims. It can also be faked with textures under the floor, but the overall result isn't quite as satifying.

I thought this too, so this is just high shine and transparancy if I just want, for example, deeply shiny wooden floors?

You don't need to use the "shiny" feature on the texture.

Lets say you have a wardrobe in your bedroom. You put it on a prim floor. Texture your prim floor with your wood texture and make it say 40% transparent. Now take a copy of your wardrobe, flip it upside down and place it directly underneath the original wardrobe.

It gives the illusion of the floor being shiny when what you actually see , is the copy wardrobe under your prim floor.

Thanks Brick. That is too prim intensive for the project I am working on, so I will have to find a different pretty-up than a reflection ... and now I know in case I am asked by someone else :)

there's a whole thread in this forum on this, and different ways to achieve it.

You know me too well ...

I'm having IMMENSE fun with this! As I am building in the air, I have to put a false "ceiling" in underneath too but that's ok cos it gives me a good thing to simply copy for a floor below. It's also forcing me to make my own furniture rather than being lazy and use someone else's build for the sake of convenience. Ultimately I love the idea that I'll have made the place virtually from scratch.

Thanks guys x
