I'm not sure how to explain my question, and maybe there is no workable answer, but maybe....just maybe, there is a fix.
In Windows (Vista) I can set the items in a folder to show various size icons etc etc....so that with JPG, PNG, etc, I can see an actual thumbnail of my image. However, with TGA files...I only see the gimp or photoshop icon thing.....
Is there a way to make windows recognize the tga too so its easier to sort thru the hundreds of texture files we texture addicts end up with??? I want to be able to do this in viewing/sorting the windows folders...so another application or image viewer isnt the answer... I did update windows with the newest DirectX SDK whatzit thingamajig (as explained here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb206255(VS.85).aspx) but...it made no difference.
Any techy tga lovers that have figured this out???
Thanks and hugs in advance!

TGA is not directly supported by Windows, so you need to use an additional piece of software to add TGA previewing to Explorer. It's a free plug-in called Thumb Plug TGA: http://greggman.com/pages/thumbplug_tga.htm(Personally, I just use PNG instead of TGA, but I hear SL doesn't handle PNG's transparency support very well.)

It works!!!!!!! OMG so much nicer! thanks so much! I searched and searched and didn't find the answer, I should have known the SL Forum people are the bestest!
I also prefer working with PNG, but the PNG's seem to be a bit more touchy on upload, if they aren't saved just right, SL seems to think they are alpha even if they aren't. I gave up and decided to just work with 24-bit TGA for uploading and save myself a lot of Lindens and headaches uploading textures that behave goofily.
Maybe there is a solution to that too....I haven't found it yet tho.
thanks again!

I for one, was in no way going to spend money to view anything in windows, it was a good find for me several months ago.
I was amazed that somebody had to do that for the world when a giant corporation couldn't.

I installed W7 and went looking for thumb plugs. Saw this, thought I'd pass it on. Same thing but better. Make sure you give the person a tip! http://greggman.com/cgi-bin/linkredirect.cgi?http://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/
