Hi,

I just started 2nd Life today and was wondering how do I take this hat off? LOL

Do I just go back to my original character and then start changing him from there?

Thanks in advance

Right click on your hat and you will see the options :)
Also, you can find it in your inventory and right click it and choose Take Off.

I tried to right click on the hat and it did not give me the option to remove it. I will look for it in my inventory again.

I did not see it there before but maybe I overlooked it. I am gonna learn this game if I have to stay up all night to do it.

Thanks,

Frank (the noob) LOL

Hats are usually attachments. Attachments say "detach" in the right-click menu, whilst clothes say "take off".

It's not totally arbitary. I typically wear about 10 - 15 attachments, 3 - 5 of them qualify as clothes. Things like hair, HUDs etc. are not really "take off" items. If I'm testing a script, I'm often found wearing that ultimate in sexy accessories, a plywood cube!

thanks Eloise, but I am not totally following you - you are so much more advanced than I am.

I do remember that the hat got on my head when I clicked on the poster at the Tutorial at the very beginning. So, it would probably not say that I can detach it.

I think my best bet would be to change back to my original character and revise my hair and looks from that one.

What do you think?

Hi, Frankie My suggestion is to find it in your inventory. If you started today, you will probably find it under your "recent items" tab to the right of your regular items. The tabs are located at the top of your inventory listings.

Once located, highlight it and right click on it. You should have an option to detach. I don't think you need to start all over. So many other wonderful and exciting things to be doing instead...ONCE WE GET BACK ON! :)

Angelica, I think I remember seeing that Tab. I will be sure to check it out once we get back on.

I agree with you, I would rather not start over creating my new look. I was quite happy with the one I made but I just could not see the hair to be able to change it.

Dang, I am such a noob but hey, I will get the hang of this LOL

My dear, Frank...we were ALL noobs! Alot seem to forget that. And don't pay any mind to anyone that may give you a hard time if you ask them for help. Just move on. Trust me..there are so many wonderful Avs out there.

I hope you have as much fun and creativity as I do in SL. ENJOY!

Now, if we can just get in there so I can fix this.

I cannot wait to see all that awaits me.

Sorry I wasn't clear before.

If you're still having problems, the easiest way to find anything you are wearing is to open the inventory. Up at the top there is a search bar. Type WORN into that (it will be capitals automatically).

This will bring up a list of anything containing the letters together like that, but also anything you are wearing (which has (Worn) put on the end of it's name and the flag is searchable).

Once you've found the hat in your inventory (you can do this with the search results, you don't have to go back to the whole list), right click it's name, and a list of options will come up. One of those will be detach. Choose that, and voilĂ  the hat comes off.

You should also be able to right-click the hat directly and choose detach from the pie menu. Sometimes that's not so easy, hats can "hide" under hair, shoes under long skirts etc. Basically, although they are being drawn with the hat on the outside SL thinks that the hair extends past the hat, so when you click it, you're clicking your hair, not the hat, and so there's no "detach" option, because you can't take hair off that way.
