Making skins is similar to making clothes with photoshop and templates but much more challenging to do well. I recommend that you start with making clothes and get some practice using the templates before tackling skins. There are a ton of tutorials for making clothes in the sticky.

Try Natalia's Blog. http://www.mermaiddiaries.com/2006/11/build.html

She has very simple tutorials for clothing, hair, skins, sculptys etc.
It's easy to understand because she goes through her tutorials in straightforward English, and has pics included, so might give you a better understanding of what you need to do for things to look good in SL.

Most importantly, have fun learning it!

If I were you, I would work on learning to use the shift key and full stop key first.

Buy some books...just a few...to learn Photoshop. They can get expensive, and even though you can find free tutorials online, sometimes having a book and a CD to follow along with lessons can be invaluable.

And always remember, Googamell is your friend. You will find tons of tutorials of all kinds online--and once you find a great community, bookmark it. It can take a lot of patience to weed through all the garbage, so take deep breaths and drink your chamomile.
