Need help with Text Tool in PS

I have PS 7.0 and CS3. I was trying to make a sign so I activated the "Type Tool" as usual to type the text I want on the sign. When I tried, nothing happeneed. I clicked the layer and the horizontal line indicator was gone as well. I tried for almost an hour but couldnt get any of the text I typed to show up on my layer. Please can somone give me any suggestions?

Check the colour of the text isn't the same colour as the layer you're typing on.

When you click on the layer is the top bar showing the text choices such as color and justification?

Possible scenario: you have a tiny area selected by mistake. Deselect all.

That's a good possibility. It happens to me all the time. So long as we're checking "Is it plugged in?" questions, you ought to also check to be sure that you aren't typing on a layer that's underneath another opaque one.

PS can also act in strange ways if it is low on memory. If I watch streaming videos of the type
such as Youtube or similar my cursor gets stuck on the hand tool when I am trying to use the
paint brush. And I think I had a problem with the text tool once under those conditions.

A reboot will clear that up if that is the problem.

lol I've done that before....and get all frustrated WTH IS GOING ON then realize ahhh I'm an idiot :)

I guess we're all idiots then, because I've certainly done that, too. :)

My other personal favorite is when I've turned off Selection Edges, forget to turn it back on, and finally forget I've got something selected. I then spend the next five minutes going "Why the $#@% can't I paint?!"

done that too! or I accidentally right click with my selection tool before switching to a brush and have a 1 pixel area selected so I can't even see it and like hmmm

I've done it so many times that if my paintbrush doesn't work for any reason the first thing I do is deselect automatically...don't even have to think about it :)
