What is a Grid scale, I bet this is obvious but I have no clue that it is or how it applies to textures :> So a little help would be fantastic! links to tutorials as well would also help!

Do you mean the grid in photoshop? If so, the grid is a display feature in PS that overlays a grid on your document that you can snap to, which is handy when you're trying to create lines of a specific length, among other things. The scale would be the spacing between the lines of the grid. If you meant something else can you give a bit more context?
