hi im new. just wondering what file type i use when up loading clothes or anything for that matter. I made a pair of pants using the GIMP. i saved as a gimp file it wouldnt show when i went to upload. So i went to change to jpeg and it said i would have to export and it would flaten the image wasnt sure if i should do that. lil help please?

JPEG will work as long as you don't need transparency, but be aware that working and working well are two different things. JPEG is a low quality format, highly compressed. For best results, always use TGA, 24-bit if you don't need transparency, or 32-bit if you do. All of this, by the way, is in the instructions that come with the clothing templates. I'd recommend reading it.
As for flattening, don't worry. Just preserve your layered work as a PSD, TIFF, or native GIMP file before you export to TGA. The TGA will simply be a flattened copy.

Don't use jpeg, use targa. 24-bit if no transparency information, 32-bit if there is transparency (alpha channel).
