I'm not sure whether it runs under Vista, but you can get the thumbplug for TGA files that runs under XP from greggman.com/pages/thumbplug_tga.htm. There's one out there for PSD files too, but I seem to have misplaced the URL. Chosen Few knows it, and I think has tested both the TGA and PSD thumbplugs under Vista too.

If you're using the 32-bit version of Vista, the same thumbplugs that worked with XP will work in Vista as well. If you need some to download, I posted a bunch in another thread a while back: /109/4c/226995/1.html Scroll down to post #8.
If you're using 64-bit Vista, then installing the DirectX SDK will give you TGA thumbnails. There is no solution for PSD at this time. The good news, though, if you're using x64 is that Bridge, which displays thumbnails for just about everything under the sun, actually works the way it's supposed to in it. (Well, Bridge CS4 does, anyway. I haven't tried the CS3 version.) The biggest thing that kept me from using it before was that it was so painfully slow to open. But the 64-bit OS seems to solve that problem. In x64, Bridge opens quickly, and according to my tests, uses no more memory than Explorer does to display any given group of thumbnails. Plus, Bridge gives you a lot more options than Explorer. It takes a little getting used to, but once you've made the mental leap to being OK with leaving Explorer behind, you'll find Bridge is actually quite good. I've transitioned in the last few months from openly despising Bridge to actively recommending it as good. Maybe not great (yet), but very good. _____________________

Thanks, Chosen. I knew I remembered you posting the links a while back, but couldn't find the thread. Unfortunately, I get a message that says the psd_ai zip file is corrupted -- unfortunate, since I lost my previously downloaded copy when I reformatted my hard drive a few months ago.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with the files, Rolig. What program are you using to unzip them? They were zipped with Winrar, if that helps. I just downloaded them myself from the other thread to test, and they came out fine for me.
Tarina, how'd you make out with them? Were you able to open the files? I just tried to upload new copies here, in case maybe the other thread was just acting up, but the forum is being a pain. Apparently it won't let you upload the same file twice, and somehow, it's being way too smart about recognizing what's what. It's a little scary actually. I've tried renaming each file, creating a whole new zip archive for each, everything I can think of, but it just won't let me upload them. It just says "You already attached this file" and gives the link to the other thread. Really annoying. So I went ahead and uploaded them to one of my websites. You can grab them at http://scifigeeks.net/thumbplugs/ . Maybe you'll have better luck from there. If not, maybe grab a trial of Winrar, and see if it makes any difference: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm _____________________

Worked like a charm on my desktop just now, Chosen. My puny laptop just wasn't feeling up to the challenge yesterday, I guess. I'll give it another shot. Thanks again.

You can use thumb plug (or whatever 32 bit thumb viewer you prefer) in Vista 64 by using the 32-bit Explorer they included. Details here /109/6a/281203/1.html#post2255245 Bit of a pain in my opinion, but its a way to get PSD thumbnails with Vista 64 in an explorer window... |

Thanks, Pygora. I remember you pointed that out before, but I had totally forgotten about it. That was right around the time I started to discover the advantages of Bridge.
