Hi! I am a new clothes designer and i'm having a problem with texturing that is driving me crazy. When i place my fabric on different layers, it changes colors slightly, looking lighter or darker than the other layer. This is making it hard to make dresses or a long shirt because you can clearly see the color difference. I am using the exact same sample of fabric for all of the layers. I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Im assuming you mean in photoshop...

it sounds like it has some transparancy or something -

Get the fabric

copy it liek 10 times by dragging its layer down to the 'new layer' icon (this copies it)

Highlight all the layers you just made (the original fabric layer and the 10copies) by ctrl clicking them in the layers pallette

hit ctrl E (if on a PC - not sure if mac but merge the selected layers)

try working with that?

Also make sure the layer mode is set to normal, and that you have the fill and opacity at 100%..

let me know how you get on?

That was it! for some reason when i was creating a new document, it defaulted to a transparent background and the resulting texture was somewhat transparent. Grrr. now i have like 20 pairs of see through jeans. lol. anyway, thanks for the help. it's funny how you can think about something for hours and it ends up being something so stupid. Thank you for the help.

I thought i fixed my problem by changing the settings but i guess not. It is definitely a transparency problem, but i can't figure out how to get it to go away. I tried making a bunch of layers and merging them and it helped a little, but when i upload to sl, it still shows a little. i am using cs3. I made sure i am using a normal layer with 100% opacity and messed with a bunch of other settings but nothing helps. This has just become a problem recently, so somehow my settings must have gotten changed or something. any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

I tried all of your tips, neil and changed my background from transparent to white which i thought was the problem, but it hasn't helped. it looks ok in photoshop but when i upload to sl, it still looks slightly see through. transparency is the problem for sure, i just can't figure out how to get rid of it. I'm wondering if i'm doing something wrong when making the alpha channel. I'm using cs3 , btw.

Hi Neil. Transparency is definitely the problem, but i can't figure out how to fix it. I tried all of your tips and it looks fine in photoshop but when i upload to sl, i can see a slight transparency. I'm wondering if i'm doing soemthing wrong when making the alpha chnnel or if my settings are screwey? this has only become a problem recently so somehow, i've changed something without realizing it.I'm using cs3, btw.

You double posted this question, but I didn't see this one until after I had already responded to the same question you posted in the Tips sticky. This would have been a better place for both of us.
