You can use most fonts successfully keeping in mind to experiment with the anti-aliasing method drop down box to give it the "effect" you want:

none
sharp
crisp
strong
smooth

Some fonts look better than others using some of the same methods.

Try:

(Of course sometimes you find one that you really like that is not free on some sites. If you have to have it always search as many sites as you can (and Google) to see if that font is available anywhere or free. Could be some sites may sell otherwise free fonts to make a profit.) Hope this helps!

I use Acid Fonts a lot, but there are hundreds of other sites where you can get fonts, both free and for pay. As others have mentioned, if you just Google for "free fonts", you'll find tons of choices.

Also, if you visit your local Office Max or computer store, you can probably find a CD (or several) for sale with thousands of fonts on it. Here's one example, with 20,000 fonts for $20. I have no idea if they're any good or not, but with 20,000 to choose from, they can't all be bad. http://www.officemax.com/omax/catalog/sku.jsp?skuId=21081259&searchString=fonts&productId=ARS26532

So you know, there's nothing special about any font that will designate it as "good for use in Photoshop". Photoshop simply makes use of whatever fonts you currently have installed in your OS, just like any other program. If you like the way a font looks, use it. If you don't, don't. It's that simple.

Also, if you want to make your own fonts, Font Creator 5 is a great little program. Not too expensive either. http://www.high-logic.com/fontcreator.html

Over 5000 different fonts, all free to download individually, or pay $7.95 and get one big file.

Barrowness I just thought about something.

I have on my machine a file with about 10,000 public domain fonts. It weighs in at about 1.5 GB. It's so many fonts you can't even install them all at once or programs like Photoshop will hate you.

I don't have a web host at the moment or I'd just toss them up for everyone. If you're interested I could perhaps find someway to get them to you.

Flashkit.com is my favorite site for downloading wonderful things. It's a website for Flash, but they've got an awesome community that shares their creativity. They have free downloads of fonts, sound fx, music, sound loops, etc. as well as Flash tutorials.
