Upload prefs?

I know SL squishes things to multiples of two (or whatever, technicalities aren't my strong point) but I've just noticed it's uploading all my images as 512x512, regardless of their actual proportions. Have I set a preference somewhere by accident? I don't want square pictures!

There is no preference setting for that.

If your source images are kinda close to 512 x 512, it may make them 512 x 512 on import. It snaps to the closest value from the list "32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024".

Best practice is to set the dimensions of your image to one of the above values BEFORE you save as tga and upload. For example, adjust the image size to 256 x 512 to get a rectangle twice as tall as it is wide, and suitable for a door.

Nuts, I didn't realise it was so precise. Insert swear words and note to self to actually read what people say on the forums ;D

Thanks!

Make any size graphic you want, I generally work larger anyway so I know I'm losing some in resizing anyway. Say I have a 800x600 image. I resize to 512x512 when I upload I put in the comment: 800x600 (so I can always remember the original dimensions). Quite simply for example make a square 1.6 by 1.2 and put the texture on it. It will now be restored to the original dimension ratio :-)
