What step-by-step instructions would I have to take to create flexi skirts, hair, or other flexi clothes?
And are there any materials I can get for free? I like taking advantage of freebies in SL.

Visit the Resource Center in the middle of the Info Island International sim. On the second floor, west side, there are a few freebie things to get you started, including a nice tutorial guide on making flexi skirts.
The best thing to do in addition to that is to look in Search under the Events tab for classes on making flexi clothes. They are offered several times a week. When I was just getting started, I found that a single one-hour class gave me enough information to create my first skirts. Good luck. ![]() |

I read a ton of turorials for making flexi shirts (not ready to tackle hair yet
). And, you know what? I found just spending the time and a few upload fees helped so much more. Once I figured out you must turn the prim upset down for gavity to work properly I slowly figured it out. Just play with it..........learn from experimenting. |

Also look for Vint's Primskirt Builder. You can find it in-world for free. It does a lot of the tedious work, allowing you more time to be creative.

If you've read this forum in the past you might know I have a little trouble with "builders" for prim skirts. That argument about it doing all the "tedious" work is hog wash. If you are not willing to do the mundane then what makes you think you are willing to put the effort to do the creative stuff? You can't really call it YOUR WORK if you don't do the hectic stuff too........you just put the icing on the cake, you did not bake it too. You did not really make that cake. First learn to do it.........all of it. Then take the short cuts. Don't start out with the short cuts..........you never learn to do it completely. My two cents.............and I expect the usual disagreements. ![]() |

Don't take it so personal Cheree. The OP asked how to make flexi skirts and hair. I don't do hair so I did not answer that part. I do make flexi skirts and told her my method.....or, at least, how I arrived at my ability to make them. You offered a "shortcut" circumventing the steps she was asking about.
I take exception to that method.........you either make the skirts or you don't. Texturing ready made prims already positioned is not, in my opinion, making a skirt. It's just coloring in the numbered sections. "Paint by numbers". |

Thanks. I'll keep my mouth shut from now on concerning this subject. Don't keep your mouth shut- opinions- even reading the differing ones - are a learning experience. For one thing- you can't really use Vint's and have it be your own unless your really do make the prim. Learning to shape the thing, how to cut it, texture etc- then using Vint's to position it can in itself be a learning experience- why? Cause regular round, balanced prim skirt get boring- eventually you start tweaking the result you get from Vint's. You start adding a prim here, and subtracting one there. Vint's is a great tool for practice, for learning and for producing. Each person uses it as they are wont. And the OP would do good to add it to her/his arsenal as a study aide if nothing else. @ OP- do visit the Ivory Tower for help in gettin gstarted with prims manipulation- you really do need to use your own to fully understand it. Also, look up Chip Midnight's templates here- free download. Get the Gimp if you don't have Photoshop- take out your trusty camera and go shoot your own textures - this is a fantastic creative outlet and if you sell something all the better Good luck._____________________

Right. There's absolutely nothing wrong with learning to use Vint's or Ged Larsen's LoopRez. They are fine tools. There are many things to be said for learning to work totally freehand, as Peggy points out. By all means, learn how to do it. Once you have, though, there's no reason to insist on avoiding a time-saving tool when it's available. The creative work of making a skirt is mostly in the texturing and the careful shaping that you need to do to give it life. A scripted tool can get the basic, boring part of the job out of the way so you have more time and energy for doing the fun part.
