How do I do it? I'm assuming it requires somehow linking a jacket with its matching skirt, but I have no idea of how to do that. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks.

There is no way to link them together. With a jacket you can (there are places for two textures, top and bottom) but it's too short for most trench coats.

The wearer will just have to put on a shirt jacket and skirt.

Chip Midnight's templates are very useful for getting the textures to line up.

Synjo, just working on theory here, but I have seen robes on some players. I imagine it could be done by creating prims that attach to the avatar, then textured appropriately.

That's how formal gowns and Star Wars Trooper armor are created. Lots and lots of prims, aligned and linked.

Don't ask me how, though. Last night I finally figured out how to create the kind of prim I wanted for an outfit, got it textured and attached but now I need to fiddle with fine-tuning the shape of the prim.
