My computer crashed and I lost all the information on the skin i was working on, I did manage to up load the the 1rst version to see the alignment on the AV. Is there a way i can download this so i don't have to start from scratch? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Open up the skin/texture then look under the File menu. You should see an option there to save to your hard drive. I'm not sure what it's called exactly since I don't have access to my client.

Bad thing is though when you save it back to your computer, it can go Targa's of the uploaded size. It means changes in photoshop cannot be applied as you would do in a PSD file. So if you notice a slight error in your Targa file, you cant fix it easely by going to the appropiate layer, since Targa doesn't know the layers. Targa's get merged to one layer....
I make once every week a backup on my external harddisc, cause i learned from this. |

I think Ilia understands the limitations associated with recovering skin textures from the SL platform. Reduced file dimensions (512x512), loss of layers, and lossy compression are the big ones.
I would approach the problem from the other end - namely, what can I recover from broken hardware, corrupted disk sectors, or unbootable hard drives, or whatever the problem is. I use Ultimate Boot CD for stuff like that. People can get free downloads here: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ Unless you deliberately wipe a hard drive, put it inside an MRI machine, or burn it to a crisp with thermite, quite a lot of data can be recovered from damaged hardware (provided the read/write heads are still functional). Even if the read/write heads are completely trashed there are services that specialize in that kind of data recovery. It's not cheap, but if the files are valuable enough it's sometimes worth it. That's what I would do, and have done in the past along with back stuff up regularly on an external drive. |

wow, I had no clue you can just save back to your computer, I assume only full perm images, nice, I always do it the long and difficult way, and no, this is my images I am talking about. But there have been tonnes of times that I want to edit an older boxed item and lost the image, good to know.
