I'm developing a 1 prim book - page size 1.000 x 0.625 - I'm trying to find the smallest readable typefont to use - so far 8pt Arial - I can read down as low as 6pt on a texture but the verticals start melding and I have a particularly good monitor - not all monitors would be able to read it - I'm experimenting with 'pixel fonts' (google it if you don't know the term) but no great success as yet - any other ideas, hints, tips.

Points are completely irrelevant in an environment like SL. They only have meaning in relation to print or to absolute screen size (1 inch = 72 pt). Points are units of measure for the real world, not for SL. In SL, the fact that you can zoom in and out at will completely negates the meaning of ANY real-world measurements, including points. You could zoom in on 10 pt font, or zoom out on a 100 pt font, and they'd look exactly the same.

The only thing that is relevant for SL (in this particular context) is the number of pixels in question. Your book pages, after all, would be textures, and the pixel is ONLY fully applicable unit of measure for textures.

So how many pixels do you need for lettering? Well, if you're not anti-aliasing, you can get down to a height of 4 pixels before you run out of room to draw a recognizable approximation of every letter of the alpha bet. The Tiny font that Lightwave linked is as good an example of this as any.

Thanks - I've had a bit of success with Square Dance - very similar to Tiny Font - the other consideration is the quality of the moniter - also as we are loading around 24 pages in a 1024 square texture there is the loading time to consider as well - thanks a lot both of you for the info - :)
