From: Consuelo Albanese Is there a way to change a texture from Alpha within SL? Nope. You have to change the image outside of SL, and reupload, unless I'm terribly mistaken.

Right. If you have a 32-bit texture, the only way to turn it into a 24-bit texture is to download it to your computer, open it in Photoshop (or whatever), and re-save it as 24-bit. There are ways to make objects in SL visible or invisible, but they are not altering the textures themselves. The only way to control whether textures include the 8-bit alpha channel is to do it outside SL.
