hello all i'm new to clothing making and geting very fustraed with trying to mak undys that look right i have tryed to make templats but thay tun out looking funny. and i have tryed the few links that are listed here but can,t seam to bring up the sights to get a good look so any help would be nice eather post here or seand me a in game tell. o and i ues gimp BTW

I've found the cut of the undies around that area is critical to avoid the stretching. I spent quite some time uploading textures to the Beta grid and testing them to confirm that they did not stretch and smear.
If you can post a picture of your problem it will help.
Otherwise IM me in world and I can send you a sample texture which does not suffer from this.

The big problem is that the UV mapping of the avatar in the groin area is abysmally bad. A one-pixel difference can cause or clear up a huge smear on the inside of the thighs. The suggestion to get a free set of alpha maps for undies as a starting point is an excellent one. Keep the leg seam from the front of the thigh to the back of the thigh precisely as it is on some template that already works. The rest of the leg seam and waistband isn't much worse than on any other clothing item.
It's also a good idea to plan to use a solid color on the crotch of the panties, from mid-pubes to mid rump, bacause in much of that area you only have a one-pixel wide line for the crotch of the panties.

What a great thread, I've been searching for one for ages. When I first joined SL in May, I was walking around wearing mini-skirts with NO UNDIES for ages untill I realised that my bare bottom could be seen by anyone who had a mind to alt and zoom...
I can make most other things but knickers has me stumped...

thank for the info i gout the alphs to day and maed my frist undys that look good it was a matter on the plasing for me as long as i have a guide for making undys it's all good i hand most of the Textuers i ues for my clothing. wich is a lot of zooming in and out if i'm working on fine detal. or i streach the textuer to give it a dfrent look.
