Hi all I've been working on an outfit that is black in color, well, not exactly black, but almost, making it entirely black would take away too much of the details of the leather texture I use for the fabric, and in PS it looks the way I want it, but when uplaoded to SL the color turns into a medium gray. This has happened to other clothing textures as well. I solved the problem by tinting the color of the outfit inside SL in the appearence mode, so the actuall outfit itself is ok, but I would like to know what causes this, and if there's anything I can do inside PS to counter it. I'm guessing I could mess around with levels, or just make it black and highlight the details, but would like to know if there are other ways to achive the goal without ruining details of the texture too much. Thx in advance

Sounds like your color profile in PS could use some adjusting (since you can't adjust it in SL). I'm on my way out the door now, so I don't have time to get into it, sorry. Look up "color profile" in the PS help.

Cal did you calibrate your monitor using Adobe Gamma or another tool? Sounds like either a profile mismatch, or a wrong gamma setting somewhere (in SL check Preferences -> Adv. Graphics -> Gamma.)
Do you also see color shifting (especially blues, purples) or simply they are getting darker/brighter?
Also are you on a Mac or Windows?
There are many factors affecting color, and CS2 is a "color managed" application, while SL is not. So unfortunately it's difficult for us to diagnose what's going on without actually seeing your setup and comparing your PSD file vs. the TGA file, etc.

Yeah, somethings awry there.
Check out the grayscale levels via the info palette in photoshop. I find that about 93-97% grayscale in PS will appear black in SL depending on your monitor.
Like Chosen said you may have some off profile while in photoshop.
It could also be the gamma setting you have set in SL, but then everything would look odd and there'd be no blacks. but you might want to check that--set it to 0.00 to use the default.

Thx for the replies guys I'm on my way out and will be gone most of the day, but will look into this when I get back later tonight, hehe wow it became more technical than I thought it was As for color shiftings, there are none, only the difference between lighter/dareker. I'm on a FSC Amilo M4438 17"WUXGA laptop wich is fairypowerful, with one of those 17"widescreens where you can look at it from pretty much any angle and the image stays sharp and clear ( don't remember what they're called right now, still hugging my coffee cup, I just woke up ) Anyways, have to go now, again thx, will look into this more closely when I get back home tonight. A happy new year to you all

if you are an image artist, do photography or anything that require some serious color accuracy, i would suggest you to invest into a monitor qualibration probe, there are models that are fairly cheap now that even a casual artist can afford.

Thank you all for your replies, I will read the help files and do some tweaking and see what I can come up with I'm no pro like you guys, just a selftaught intermediate user, but i'm learning more and more, and things like this are becoming more and more important, and i'm becoming more aware of them as well. Again, thank you all for your help
