bug/hint: Uploading BVH files on Macintosh

Poser for Macintosh exports the BVH file with Macintosh line ends, but Second Life for Macintosh will not upload the file. You get the error "premature end of file".

After switching to DOS line ends, the BVH uploaded successfully and worked fine. I have reported the bug.

I used BBEdit to switch the line ends, but you can find some other tools/methods here:

The program called LineBreak mentioned on the hints page is no longer available at the location given; I found it here: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/12045

Still having problems
05-31-2004 07:10
I downloaded the program LineBreak to convert my Mac Poser file and I'm still having problems. When I export the file from Poser it asks me if I want it to scale it or not. I tried it both ways and then converted both files.

When I try to upload the the scaled file gives me this error message: Make sure you have at least two frames of animation data.

When I try to upload the non-scaled file I get this message: Unable to read animation file. Can't get rotation order.

The problem could also be my poser skills, so here is what I did: Droped one of the included poses on the default guy and created a keyframe at frame one. Then moved to frame 30 and dropped a diff pose on him, created a keyframe. Then I canged the last frame to 60, moved to it, dropped the first pose on it and set another keyframe. When I hit play I get a quick little looping animation. Then I went to File > Export > BVH

Anybody have any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks

Does anyone have additional info about uploading Mac poser animations?

Thanks,

I do not think your current problems are Macintosh specific.

For general hints, take a look at Xenon Linden's post here:
/invalid_link.html

There is some discussion of your error message ("at least two frames";) here:
/invalid_link.html

And some more hints at SLUniverse (thanks Cristiano!): http://www.sluniverse.com/forums/messages.aspx?ForumID=36

Just as an experiement: try adding a couple more key frames. And let us know how it goes (or not).

If you're using Poser 5, and get a "Can't get rotation order" error, choose the Scale Automatically option when you export the .bvh

I'm having another problem I can get it to upload, but it wont work. I've got a 3 sec anim. Sl sees that it is a 3 sec anim, and actually plays for 3 sec, but nothing happens to my avie..
I couldnt get flip to work but I was able to get linebreak to work I tried both with and without file protection but they still dont work. aside from SL knowing how many frames, and the FPS

How long after uploading (or logging on) did you try the animation? It sometimes takes a while for the animations to become active (load?). Before that (in my case), my arms shoot out to the sides.

If you still need help on this one, you might want to start another thread. Probably get more attention than the Macintosh line end thread.

Thanks Adam, I got it to work! Following the links you posted, I used the Poser 2 man figure, made the first keyframe the default pose, did not use the Poser library of poses, and used LineBreak to fix my exported file. I just tested it out and it worked perfectly.
