Item name changes not reflected in Appearance window?

I'm currently renaming all of my skins, and I'm doing it by right-clicking the file name in the inventory window and pasting in the new name. But I notice that when I look in Appearance mode, the skinname listed at the top shows the old name, not the new one. The old names still show even after a few days, which I'd think would give the database time to catch up.

Is this a bug? Will the database eventually catch up and take the new name? And if it doesn't, could this cause problems for me down the road if the name shown in inventory is different than the name shown in Appearance?

Thanks

It's been this way for as long as I can remember. As far as I know, renaming *any* avatar item (clothes, skin, eyes, etc) by right clicking and editing the properties doesn't show the new name when you edit appearance. The database won't catch up, and I doubt it's a bug. Whatever it is, it's annoying but it happens.

If you're renaming skins and want to avoid any issues with new name/old name enquiries, your best bet is to go into "edit appearance" and then "save as". This makes a duplicate with the correct name in your inventory and in your appearance window. :)

It's a time consuming process but it works.

A shortcut might be to make your skins "no modify". That would mean people can't re-save them as the old name, but it will still display the old name when they edit appearance. This doesn't solve your problem, it just covers it up. :D

Confused yet? :)

It's weird but normal. The shapes and skins have names stored inside the assets themselves, these are not the names used in your inventory. (Inventory doesn't actually have any assets in it, it's just a list of names pointing to assets.)

If you do a copy or rename in inventory, the asset is not touched, so it keeps its original internal name.

To force the names to sync up, use the "Save As" button in appearance mode. You might need to get out of appearance and back in to see that the change took, but it should update in that window right away.

On the other hand, it's harmless to leave the names different.

It's been like this forever. It means you can't really create new items for sale starting from existing items, unless you don't mind customers seeing this weirdness. It's always best to start new items by creating them in the inventory window.

Yah, all of my avatars from one vendor have skins that show up with names like "a good doggy", no matter what the species is. :D
