Hiya all
I am working on a top at the moment, I designed it the way i wanted it, created a mask (im using psp 7) clicked edit added the transperencie where i wanted it
ended up with this:

sample.JPG
I then saved to alpha, deleted mask, did not merge it....uploaded it to SL.....and it did not turn out the way it was supposed too...in the bottom half og the top ya can see i made it semi transperent, however in SL its not transperent.....I also do have any sleeves on this top but in SL the top appeared to have sleeves
So I'm wondering does anyone know where I am going wrong as I can seem to work it out
Nat

I use Photoshop myself, haven't use PSP in a while, so I'm afraid I can't be of super help with the transparancy issue you are having. I did however find a couple of references that might help you:

Semi-transparent textures in PSP
http://www.sluniverse.com/forums/Topic1478-13-1.aspx

Alpha Channels in PSP
http://wave.prohosting.com/shebangs/alpha-psp.html

As for the sleeves. I've noticed that when I have a lot of bleed over the seams on the template, sometimes it looks like I have sleeves even if I didn't make them. What usually works for me is to go into appearance and apply the shirt texture to the sleeves, then put the sleeves setting to zero. It seems to trick the pattern. If yours is doing that for the same reasons mine do, that *should* work. If not, I'm sorry. :(

In trying to replicate what you did I'm confused at this portion: "created a mask (im using psp 7) clicked edit added the transperencie where i wanted it"

Could you clarify that portion? Did you do the make the bottom half transparent before making the mask or after?
If before, try after. :) That's the only thing I can see that stands out, but I could be misunderstanding a step.

Oh, I thought of one more thing. When you create your alpha channel be sure to choose "from source opacity" and not the other two options and see if that helps.

Oh well I'm guessing that's why. The mask (alpha channel) is the bit that tells it which parts of the image have transparencies. (When saving as a 32 bit targa anyhow) Create it after and it should hopefully work.
It runs the complete opposite of normal uses for masks in psp if you've ever follow tutorials using them, so that really confused me for awhile.

Chosen Few has an interesting post explaining color & alpha channels here
that I think is worth a read.

Hope your designing is going well. :)

one thing i did notice, is the pic doesnt seem to be using the upper body template. This would correct your prob of stuff appearing on your sleave. (looking at the pic again, looks like its possible you cropped the image)

You can get the basic templates here, or
Chip Midnight's here (a lot more detailed).
