Ok i have a question, i have been fiddling around with texturing and am getting decent at it. My only problem is i can only do things on the body i havea template for. Like if i wanna texture odd objects like swords and such how would i do that? just texture prims and link them or is there a way to map and create a template?

You might want to check out Robin Sojourner's inworld texturing tutorials to see how the UV's fall on each prim type. There are no templates necessary for primative objects. Rectangular textures wrap around them like paper wraps around a christmas present.

Unless you deliberate change the repeat values to less than one per face, the entire rectanglular canvas is utilized. It's not like texturing a complex shape (like the avatar) where sections of the canvas have to be broken up into areas that more reasonably fit the model than would a full rectangle. Texturing prims is fairly straight forward.

Yes you have to texture each prim. No you can't create a texture map template for any objects. The inworld texturing tutorial mentioned by Chosen is something you should visit while in SL. It really helps you understand how to texture a prim. It's not as obvious as it seems.
