Ok we've all seen a textured sphere's "pinching" at the polar ends. This is annoying, here's how we solve that.
This tutorial is done in PS, Im not sure if it can be done in PSP. I'm working with a denim texture because its the first thing I grabbed :P
this will take a moderate amount of experience in PS but shouldn't be too difficult, on with the show:

and the results, they aren't 100% perfect but theyre a lot better then the pinching.

Great tutorial, thanks for posting it. Until now, I had been using the Spherize filter on -100%, which of course is a little goofy.

This technique can be done in PSP 8 - there is a Polar Coordinates filter in Effects--Distortion Effects. Change the default to Polar to Rectangular to get the desired effect - all other steps are the same.

Cristiano

PS - thanks for this great tip Spider!

As for everything created prior to the death and resurrection of the forums, the images were purged. Look at the date will tell you that. My suggestion, PM the orginal poster, see if they have the images still.

Don't know what the old link was, but Googling on "Photoshop tutorial texture sphere polar distortion" shows this one:
