A bit about Alpha Layers

No, I'm not doing a tutorial on Alpha Channels, as there are already many of them out there.

The purpose of this post is to ask if there are any "tailors" out there who would like to share their alpha channels with the community? I'll add some of my own when I get to the computer where I've got them, in a zipped folder with files for the various parts of the body. The way I'm thinking of doing it is just to create a file 1024x1024 and then place all the alpha channels I've got for that part of the body in the file, and save it, and add it to the zip.

If any other of you tailors would like to do the same I think it would be great, as it's sometimes hard to make an alpha channel that works well. And if there already is a thread like this, a moderator is welcome to add a link and lock this topic ;)

Since there's no such thing as an "alpha layer", it's doubtful you'll find anyone with any to share. However, if you'd like to ask for alpha CHANNELS, you might get some takers, as those actually do exist.

Thanks for making the change. Too bad the forum engine doesn't list edited titles, but oh well.

So you know, it's not just a question of being picky about semantics. Proper wording is really important in an educational environment such as this. When things are mislabeled, it's often very confusing for people who are trying to learn graphics for the first time.

Anyway, I'll be happy to contribute some sample alphas when I get a chance. Probably won't be any time this week, as I'm slammed with projects, but I'll add stuff when I can. :)

I still can't get a working TGA alpha been using png. Been thinking of experimenting with skins but I know its going to suck really badly. I have though been wondering if there is way with the templates to do transparent skins or partial transparency in skins that sliders would recognize like if you wanted to make a skeleton skin or guy with missing body parts or partial mr invisible?

skins won't take alphas... to simulate search for "invisiprim".

::has seen a skeleton walking around, but the wipe out from the invisiprim kinda ruins the effect in some places::
