Is there an online library (preferably free) of island terrain bumpmaps?

A sim owner can access a library of the standard island .raw files that LL offers when a person buys a new sim. Ask the Concierge for info on where to get the files. I beloeve no one else can get those files directly, but then again, only a sim owner can upload or download .raw files to change a sim's terrain, either. Possibly any other Concierge-level customer can also get copies of those files, though they don't do you much good unless you also own at least one sim.
If you are *not* a sim owner yourself, but want to work with .raw files to edit terrain, you'll have to do what I do - work with someone who *does* own one or more sims, have them obtain the .raw files and e-mail them to you. I have been doing quite well working with copies of .raw files e-mailed to me by a sim-owning client, editing or completely replacing the terrain height map, and then sending the edited file by e-mail to the sim owner for uploading. I'm actually starting a new facet of my business, developing custom terrain heightmaps for that sim owner's clients. _____________________

When i tried to contact concierge support, they had no such library available. It it possible to revert my island to the original landform, and then download the raw file, but I was hoping there'd be a less destructive solution to get hold of the file. In any case, that would only be a copy of the terrain layout i originally picked, not a library of such files.

Hummm. Let me check with the owner of the sims I am working with at the moment. I could swear she had access to a library of all the stock islands. Maybe she just saved one of each type herself as her clients ordered them? I'll find out.

I"m not aware of a library.
There are four 'stock' island shapes. When you buy a SIM, you pick the one you want. There's an available one for play/practice at: http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=288 NOTE: This knowledgebase article incorrectly states that Channel 4 can be used to subdivide land. This appears to not work. I use BACKHOE on my Mac to make new RAW files. Easy as pie. My Partner uses a combo of Terragen, Bailiwick and Photoshop. FYI: I have seen RAW files for sale in-world at vendor machines for $30,000 Lindens. |
