Hi Shakira! Good Question. The cool thing about SL is that you can dream up any design you want!
I can't speak for everyone, we all have different levels of detail, etc., but I usually get my ideas from RL clothing that I see in person. I then ask the person to stand still and take pictures of them (LOL--just kidding--wouldn't that be GREAT!!!?? ![]() Cut? Two things I've learned designing for SL.. 1. Play with the cut and be ready to redo it until it looks right. I've designed tons of clothing articles that really looked goofy of the SL form. One square up on the bust line of the female avie can be the difference between a sexy outfit and something that looks like she's wearing a tent! So experiment and keep redoing it until you have it where you want it. I've even uploaded designs with template grid lines showing, just to see where I needed to change things. Robin Sojourner's templates are great for that because you can move the vector grid layer above your design. 2. All clothing needs to be 'S.L.-ized'. Almost every cut can be exaggerated in SL and is usually so much the better for doing so. When in doubt make the cut more 'im-modest' than you think you should. _____________________

Well, i'm not a heavy lace user, so I don't have a good answer for you. I know there is a well known designer who has a nice lace texture bundle, but for the life of me, I can't find her info right now.
When you say 'cut' I assume you mean the clothing edge line like the bust line, etc. Obviously, we don't cut anything in photoshop--we simply drawn fabric on the areas that we want it and alter the alpha channel to match the edge, or in some cases let the alpha channel define the edge, leaving fabric past the edge on the template. There are many helpful tips on using the alpha channel in the sample tutorials in the Great Links thread at the top of the forum.. _____________________
