i am making wings and was told the wings edges are visible where possible mapping is occuring on the z plane, which has the miminal thickness of 0.10. i tried on a pair of wings i bought and sure enough, those do not have that at all. what to do? thank you, soulfusion

If its at the end of the main side of your texture, just play with the repeats on the texture tab.

If its on the EDGE of your wings, you need to make an alpha layer in PS, or PSP (whatever you use), uplaod it and put that as the texture :)

I have one you can have, but I am not in world for another few hours :)

I'll drop one on you when I'm in SL tonight. Put the trans texture in first then use select texture to add the wing textures.

Or you can get it here

A big thankyou to

Tip from the esteemed Kharmon Fate:

There is a oddity in the texture mapping which causes a 1 pixel texture wrap-around which sticks the bottommost line of your texture to appear at the top of the prim face (and vice versa). The workaround is to set the number of texture repeats per face from 1.0 to 0.98. I hope this helps.

I right-mouse clicked that transparent .tga file and opened it in photoshop, its quite small, what is its use? lol i looked at repeat, in SL what's that suppossed to do? lol, so obviously im lost on this guyz heh. i can tell that the line that shows up is in fact texture on the z plane with that itty bitty thickness of 0.10. Help?!

Okay, I put the clear .tga file in first then used select texture to add in the wing targa. still see that edge/line. i did a little experiment and noticed that even with the clear .tga in there alone, i can see a line goin round the exterior....ugh lol

Make sure all textures are set to blank before dropping clear in. When you drop the clear in you should not be able to even see the prim it's in if you close the editor(carefull you could have a hard time selecting it again).

Make sure you have select texture set in object options, then click on the side of the prim you want to add the wing texture to, drag the wing texture to the prim side not the image well in the editor.

Lower the repeat of your wing texture below 1.0

If you still have problems I'll find you in world around 5pm est and help ya out

When you make your texture in PS or PSP, if you leave a transparent pixel or so at the edge the wrapping bug won't be able to bite you. (Wrapping pure transparency is still pure transparency.) That's what I do, anyway.

The "repeat" tells the program how many times to tile your texture. A repeat of 1 is, of course, a single image. Less than one clips the image. More than 1 tiles it.

Hope this helps!

I appreciate everyone's help. I got it solved. What finally clicked in my head thanks to Max, was that I needed to select individual faces on a cube, that all the faces were being loaded with the image...lol. seems logical doesnt it...well now i have it heh..thanks all...soulfusion
