The foot shadows have improved a lot in the latest updates so it may not be so important now but it may come in handy in certain situations. It won't remove them as they are effectivly prim attachments but you can make them invisible. ts not hard to do but you will need to change a parameter in a configuration file in SL. Worse case sinario is you will have to reload SL if something goes wrong.

Go to:

C:\Program Files\SecondLife\app_settings\viewerart.ini

Look for "foot_shadow.tga 14e8a47d-1055-0a68-5d55-eafd9ad3da5b" should be at the bottom.

See that long number string? That is the shadow texture UUID. If you change that UUID into a clear texture UUID, it will make the shadows invisible,

Changing the value to:

" foot_shadow.tga 44b45f4f-a5a9-6e2d-4956-60c37ad8b0e3"

(no quotes) will make them disappear. If you save the old value on a note you can plug it back in when you want the shadows back. Why the heck LL can't add this option is beyond me but this will work for now.

Thanks Kathmandu!
I always hated those foot shadows. They look horrible in adcopy for items.

j00 r00l!

(btw, dunno if its my video card/settings/whatever cuz I didnt much bother checking in between crashes but the first thing I noticed about the new foot shadow implementation is that it makes all invisiprim shoes look shite. For me, it I see the heel shape nicely cut out of the shadow.)

Can I change the foot shadow to be red carpet? That way everywhere I go they'll have rolled out the red carpet for me! :D

In theory, I guess so! If you upload any texture and use the key where Katt details, I imagine it'll show that instead?

I can't take the credit although I did verify that it works. Cid Jacobs mentioned the location of the file in another thread, I just made it easier to find.

Cool idea! Just outta curiousity, this would be entirely client-side, right? Meaning, I would see no foot shadows on myself, or anyone else, but everyone else would see my foot shadows and their foot shadows still, right?

I tried to do something similar to this to change the textures of Linden trees, can change them, but only locally, in my client...

Try it and let us know. I think they are rectangular prims on the bottom of the foot.

Ahhh shoot! When I saw all the other informataion in there for the different pose *.bvh files I was all excited. Finally, a way to customize animations without needing animation overriders! So I created a quick script to fetch the inventory key for an animation of mine and then i plugged into the file. *sigh* A pity it didn't work.

Find the Second Life application icon (it's probably in your Applications folder).

Control-click it and choose Show Package Contents.

From there it's in Contents->Resources->app_settings->viewerart.ini

You should just be using a simple text editor. You might have entered some extra formatting characters that caused SL to crash when it tried to read the contents of the file.

I tried doing this for the crosshairs but it doesn't work; SL still uses the original texture key. :/
