Hi all. I'm on a quest to make realistic fire -- not the particle-based stuff but animated-looking fire. Can someone point me in the right direction? I've assumed that I start with 1 or 2 fire textures with alpha channels and then I add a script... Correct assumption? Any advice would be appreciated as I've spent HOURS trying to figure this one out on my own! Thanks!!
(I posted a similar request in the "scripting" group)

I just gave you an object named "Fire for Fireplace". It's an updated version of a free fireplace that I got in a freebie box, and I believe the original scripting was a Linden offering. Look in the fire prims, by checking 'edit linked parts' and clicking on one of them, for a texture and script that makes them display an animated flame.
Essentially it's a 16-frame animation texture with an alpha-mapped background. The script switches rapidly through the 16 frames, making the fire dance. 2 or 3 of these fire plane prims make a cozy fire.

Sure, billythe. Just send me an IM in-world and ask for the fireplace, and I'll do it the next time I get in-world.
