Meshes?

Is it possible to get character meshes for default male/female models in SL? Everything in the SecondLife folder seems to be in a proprietary .llm format. Does LL provide meshes in a more open format? It would be nice to export our own UV maps from Maya or bring the meshes in to Deep Paint for more accurate texture design.

Templates are here. PSD format, can be edited in any good graphics program (Photoshop, PSP, GIMP etc).

Male and females use the same templates. Upper body covers shirts, undershirts, gloves, and upper half of jackets, lower body covers pants, underpants, socks, shoes, and lower half of jackets. The others are obvious :)

Enjoy :D

Maybe my terminology was wrong. I'm looking for the actual vertice information for the models, so I can map the 2d templates to a 3d character and draw in 3d with Deep Paint 3D. A .3ds file, a maya binary scene, a lightwave object, something along those lines.

You would have to ask the Lindens for the exact data. They've been pretty forthcoming about stuff like that on occasion, so who knows?

Aye, hasn't happend yet though :P would be nice but I don't see it happening soon, realisticly it would take less time to use the raw UV maps they give us to rebuild the AV base in a 3d enviroment using ref pics from SL

hope for this

I really want to get my SL Av out of SL and into a re modelling arena where I can improve and enhance the look and shape and extend in areas beyond the Sl sliders.

I would hope eventually that we can import AV's back into Sl from better modelling packages and also cannot wait for the LIndens to finally improve AV making in one future update, increasing the slider values, min and max, dealing with the blocky pixel blocky edges when ur on max for any parts and allowing us greater number of variables on face and body.

At present many things have moved on and AV appearance and bodies is not one of them. About time for an upgrade here please.

Avatars are probably the laggiest thing in the game from an FPS perspective, and very possibly from a bandwidth perspective as well. When the average person has 1mb up/down and 256mb on their graphics card with a shading engine then you might see avatar upgrades. Until then it's a tradeoff of performance for looks, and SL is balancing on the edge for many.

I'd think that would be virtually impossible, considering the significant customizability that our avs have.
