I'm trying to finish a tattoo, and have apparently not used something to do with an Alpha channel correctly, so I'm told could anyone tell me what an Alpha channel is and how I create it, i'm using Photoshop elements, and am no expert. Thanks.

In case you don't feel like cutting and pasting Michael's link, try this. Take a look at the front page of the texturing forum (you can probably get there just by hitting your Back button right now). See the big orange sticky at the top that says "Transparency and Alpha Chanels: The Definitive Guide"? Click on it and read.
