I'm not sure if this has already been asked and i missed it but i did look through the search and the stickys aswell.
Basically i'm wanting too find a really good website that has easy to follow tutorials on hand making textures.
Like Silk, Patterened Silks, Brocade, Wool, 3d effects etc.
For a example i made a jumper recently and i want to make it look like it has bobbles on it but not sure how to do that or what tool i can use and how i can make the bobbles look 3d like.
Any help would be great
Thanks

Id start by just typing in "clothing textures", "fabric texture", "silk brocade texture" , stuff like that etc in to google image search.
With or without the filtering, however without sometimes brings more risque results.

Did you try looking through all of the tutorial links in the sticky at the top of this forum? That's what it's there for. Also, the advice about doing a Google search is excellent. Just start typing in things like "silk texture Photoshop" or "denim texture Gimp" or "Photoshop fabric tutorial." In seconds, you can have more tutorial links than you will ever know what to do with. You can also do the same thing with this forum. Try searching this forum's archives for a simple word like "silk." We get questions about fabric textures all the time, and people often post links to tutorials in their replies.

Well I sometimes take photos of my own fabrics , purchase pics from artists on the internet or use royalty free pics , then I lay them out over my design in Photoshop and use a mix of the blend modes/opacity/filters and hues to incorporate a realistic texture into my work. I found in Photoshop the very best way is play with the filters and blend modes to see how they work and what kind of textures they can create.

Ok thankyou everyone,i'm using Photoshop but i have Gimp aswell. I've read through the stickies and got all the help they offered but they don't really help on making your own textures. Thank you for posting the links

I recommend the book called 3D Game Textures by Ahearn. It has lots of good technical information and many step by step tutorials. It completely transformed how I make textures and taught me a whole lot about photoshop at the same time.

i would suggest going to the PhotoShop tutorials/links within the program. Googleoogleinging on "photoshop fabric tutorials" brings up a lot of stuff.
Try some, experiment, experiment some more. trial and error. Start simple. Don't expect to make good stuff for a while. Keep at it. You have to learn what can be done before being able to do it. It's all filters and layers and overlay modes.
Gimp is the same
good luck with it.
