Hello,

Starting in November I'm going to be teaching a class about Kente cloth, that will include some free texture examples for those learners interested in creating articles of clothing with this colorful texture.

The class focus will be more on learning about this textile, but I wanted to share one of the urls I'll be taking my info from with you wonderful designers. Who knows? It might be fun to spice your clothing lines with some Kente textures :)

I picked this url because it has an area where you can design your own Kente cloth, but it doesn't seem to be working on my computer, so hopefully someone else might be able to report on how that works. Either way, there is enough information there to spark some ideas!

Wrapped in Pride

Enjoy! :D

Also, please contact me if you've created something with Kente, and/or created your own Kente texures. I'd LOVE to have a "Guest Speaker" come and show off some designs at the classes. I'll be holding them 2-3+ times a week throughout November at the Laka Learning Place (LLP).

this is really cool, I played around with their cloth designer... its mostly just a toy to see the pretty colors, as the final product cant be copied or anything. Its a macromedia shockwave ap, so you may just need to update your shockwave plugin.

As for the class and designing textiles this is really cool and I would love to participate some... may even be able to write up some simple tutorials for photoshop. Great post with a great idea.

Ty Spider :)

Just send me a message ingame anytime you want to teach/collaborate!

Thanks for tip on upgrading my shockwave - I've a bunch of things just stop working on my brand new computer *cries* :( But I'll check everything out and hopefully its just a matter of updating things.

I fiddled around and uploaded some Kente textures I found on the web to see how they look in SL - not too shabby! I look forward to what kinds of things can be done with Photoshop :)

The lables of the jpgs are the names of the paticular Kente designs.

Classes Starting Up Now :)

Check your events calendar :)

I've held two classes already this past weekend with GREAT response! OMG this is so much FUN hehe ;)

Next one is noon gametime on Tuesday Nov 9th (my RL birthday WOOT!) :D
I'm experimenting with different time zones, so lemme know what days/times are best.

I know yer busy with SL fashion week Asri (GO Asri GO YAY!!) but no worries, I'm gonna be giving this class all month long.

I'm still a major rookie with photoshop, so if anyone ELSE has some clothing they've made in there with kente accents or designs we'd LOVE to see them! (I'm weh too embarassed to show my attempts as of yet...but working on them as I go along)

Thinking of also doing a fashion show/show and tell sorta thing at the end of this series, so folks can show off their creations. Already seen a wonderful ottoman created by one of the class Learners - with an awesome kente cloth cushion, and some fantastic shirts and dresses!

Suggestions, collaborations, ideas etc WELCOME ~ I'm a bit braindead from RL finals so I'm sure I'm missing some other cool stuff to do with this idea...bring em ON! :)
