I am part of a RL business group working in SL and our building is set to group... the textures used in making that building are sitting on an avatar that we can't get access to at the moment (employee is on leave)...I was told that since it is a group deeded object and I have full perm rights to the piece that there is some way I can get the texture from the piece and pull it into my inventory. I cannot figure this out. Is this possible?

I beleive the person would have to give them to you, that is... assuming he/she had already asked for and recieved the permissiont to "Share" the textures with you or your group.

The only way you could access them in this person's absence is if they had already given
you "mod rights" to their stuff.

Commonly though any legitimately original textures in SL are or anywhere else are covered
under the internation copyright laws which in short says that you need the permission of the
"Creator" (not the current owner) to distribute the textures in any way including share them among your group. In short anything outside of using it on a prim you may sell requires permission from the creator.

And for you to get them from that avatar in their absence the only way is to have recieved modify rights from that person. :)

Well I do have modify rights to the person's objects as well as to the group one's and teh texture was custom made for this project only. He will be gone for 2 weeks and I hate waiting that long to finish this darn building lol. So there is a way if I have full mod rights to His stuff?

I beleive it only gives you the power to mod previously rezzed objects. That is I am pretty
sure the mod rights status does not allow you to go into their inventory.
But if the texture is already being used on one of this person's objects, you should be able to
texture one of your objects with that texture using the eye dropper tool.

If the original texture is full perms, then I think you might be able to use a script to get the texture's UUID and then use another script in the new prim to set the texture with that UUID. Look at llGetTexture and llSetTexture.

You might also want to consider a texture vendor that is set to group use only and is left on-site for members of the project to use. Such vendors usually only allow full perms textures to be displayed or dispensed.
