Sheen or Gloss on Skin

Hi all,

I use GIMP and finally have a skin out there in the Second World. just one. for sale. what the heck. actually i'm pretty excited since it represents the hundreds of hours you all know about so very well...

anyway. i would like to learn how to create a real sheen on the skin. not that weird nylon look that you get sometimes, but the glossy shiny great glowing skin look.

i've fooled around with some of the light effects in GIMP, but is there something out there that could give me more of a tutorial? my skin looks a little dusty.

How are you defining "real sheen"? You do know that avatars can't actually shine, right? The best you can do is paint a good approximation of a shine onto the skin or clothing.

I'm afraid I can't tell you the exact sequence of steps to use in GIMP, but you can probably benefit from the general knowledge in this thread: /109/e3/156870/1.html . It talks about creating the appearance of shiny vinyl clothing, but the same principles apply to any desired shiny material. You'll just have to translate the Photoshop-specific parts to GIMP. (And sorry, the picture that was originally linked in the thread has disappeared, but you don't really need it.)

yeah, chosen, i definitely know avs can't won't don't shine... although i did hear someone was spreading the word among noobs they could sweat. hm.
