Thanks for any advice on this: I would like to display a letter on a desk in SL, with text from a Word doc I created on it. Is this possible? I visited one store in SL where I saw this done, altho I suppose the letter was a picture. Is there a way to convert my word doc (it is a brief "letter" done in a font I want) to upload and use as a texture? Many thanks in advance:)

Just do a screenshot and crop/change the size in an editing program.

If you want to use up your default URL texture you can save and post your word document as HTML, then link to it. That way you can keep the text and make revisions to it without uploading a new texture each time. You may need to use some special formating to keep the margins intact, but it's very doable.
