I have a maybe funny question. When I make objects with white texture, it becomes kind of grey in the dark. But I have seen many objects displaying white texture as pure white even if it's dark (sun gone down). And there is no light script attached. How is this?

Set your object to be group owned by the GOP

Ok, I feel bad about that so I will try to help: Set the material from wood to light

be *CAREFUL* when setting things 'light'
it can cause a significant strain on the second life clients, don't set anything multi-prim to light, don't set anything permanent in world thats over 4-5m along a dimension light, etc. Every light has to be calculated for every frame, to every moving object (including avatars) nearby, via some rather time consuming cpu calculations. It just takes one person who sets a 'house' to light, to pretty much halve, or worse, everyones frame rate in a sim

So... I shouldn't have my hoochie hair set to type 'light'?

People setting entire structures, or builds, to 'light' because they don't like it when the sun goes down.. are a big problem for SL... its basically impossible to use local lighting enabled now... and its a shame cause local lighting adds *significantly* to the ambiance.. plus with lighting actually turned on.. *ONE* large and even invisible light prim, actually can light up a whole build, elmininating the need to set the whole thing that way

The default texture has a wood grain in it and white sort of serves as clear. If you make the texture blank and white, it will be starkly white, no need to make it light.

For me, local lighting is like the 512 draw distance- something I only activate when I'm taking pictures. How about the lighting tricks simulate local lighting (when it is, in fact, turned off), like gradiant alpha channel textures set to light so simulate glows? Can this cause trouble? Or is it just a common sense issue, where large and numerous = bad, small and subtle = ok
