While working on a skin I made the eyelash area 100% alpha to remove them in order to see what I was doing better - and discovered I was left with the default Linden eyelashes.
Does this mean all we can do is make our lashes match exactly those that are already there in the hope we can reshape and clean them up a bit or am I missing something ? The default texture is very messy and unless the new lashes line up, simply show up in the gaps between my own lashes making matters worse... I can't believe this is our only option but I can't think my way around it.

CJ Go to appearance and remove the Linden eyelashes. That should work. Jen

From: Jennifer McLuhan CJ Go to appearance and remove the Linden eyelashes. That should work. Jen Hmm, I was just trying to disable eyelashes on a new skin, last night. I went through (seemingly) every appearance button/panel, but did not see that option. Could you elaborate as to where, exactly, that option is? It certainly didn't appear to be a slider, but then again... (Saying "doh" in advance.

CJ, the Linden eyelashes are unfortunately there no matter what you do on your skin textures or in the client *.tga files. You can use the head_alpha.tga file in the client "character" folder to get the proper coverage area for the eyelashes and tint them a flesh color on your skin head texture. Then, do what Jennifer suggests, and adjust the sliders to the absolute minimum so they are barely visible. You can look at a close up of my PJ-0 skin on my web site to get an idea of what blonde tinted eyelashes look like, and how you might be able to hide them using a flesh color.

I was experimenting, last night, and added a color layer around the eyes. It did not appear to affect the lashes one iota. If memory serves correctly, the attached image, derived from Chip's UV Map/shaded grid, indicates the "zones" where I tried to either draw lashes, or apply a color layer. I ended up with either an eyeliner effect, or worse, a black eye. Thanks for initiating the discussion, CJ! PS: Attachment upload seems to have been disabled. I'll try to host the file, somewhere, and post a link. Image link: http://static.flickr.com/42/124682656_b43ae267d2_m.jpg

Thanks for tips on hiding the eyelashes, though ultimately I want to replace them with my own (i'm not in world to experiment atm) surely if I minimize the lashes with the appearance slider then my own lashes when I've done them will be hidden also ?
So the question still remains how do I achieve decent looking eyelashes ? Refering to my first post... it's a case of positioning each lash over the corresponding Linden one and a little larger/thicker to minimize the resulting mess ?

Paulo, I think you're confusing the eye area of the template with the lash area. The lashes are defined in a small, seperate rectangle in the extreme top left of the template.

OK, here it comes: DOH! Thanks for clarifying - It never even occurred to me that was what the scribbles were all about.

The lashes portion of the template is in the top right corner, not left. Check in the head_color.tga and head_alpha.tga image found in the resources > character folder of the SL app and it's also shown in Chip's head template. Then the lashes slider is the second slider from the bottom in the shape > eyes list. Depending on the colours used around your eyes you can make them all but disappear but that's about it. Any alpha channel areas left on a tattoo texture will just let the base layer show through.
