I don't know of any specific tutorials for making skins for SL, but you can find a lot of them on the web, both for painting human skin in Photoshop (and similar programs) and for creating skins for 3d models. All of them are relevant to SL, just not using SL's avatar UV mapping. Making skins is no different than making clothing. It's a matter of understanding the templates and their idiosyncracies and being good with your paint program. For the former, clothing tutorials can help a lot. For the latter, any good tutorial on painting skin is applicable.

Not to mention shading, tones, play of light, skin textures and variants. I would say that while the techniques for creating skins vs clothing are similar making a good quality skin is way more difficult. The reason I say that is that the human mind knows what looks right for things that are familiar. If its wrong it knows it but can't tell you what is wrong. I can create a skin in a few minutes that will have all the bits in the right places but it will look like paint. To make one like you and Nam make ... thats artistic skill right there.

I completely agree with you, Dante. The point I was trying to make is that there's nothing technically different between making skins and clothing as far as how it works in SL is concerned. There are certainly big differences in painting techniques but there are lots of tutorials on painting human skin to be found. They just aren't specific to Second Life.
