i saw it done today, one prim supporting what it seemed to be two textures... and i want to just ask, is it really two textures or do people just "streatch" the tectures and/or have a very large border or, can it be done in world?

Each FACE of a prim can get one texture. Click on the option "Select Texture"

It can be done either way. Either use different textures for different faces of the prim, or use one bigger texture which has different colors or patterns on different parts of it, and set different offsets (and maybe different scales) for each face of the prim. It takes a bit of practice to get the offsets right, but it can reduce lag and the cost of uploading the texture.

Just remember that when you create a hollow prim many times it will only accept one texture for the entire inside. The box comes to mind since many homes are made with hollow & cut boxes. They end up altering builds or adding prims to prevent the walls, ceilings & floor all being the same. If a build does this, I've taken to making one texture that combines the look and will wrap the hollow inside. It takes a bit of time, math & fudging, but the look is worth it.

Another one to remember for this, if you cut the prim in half (say 0.375 and 0.875, or 0.125 and 0.625 - the common cuts for one prim doors) you actually have two faces next to each other that look like one face. If you make the cuts 0.25 and 0.75 so they're only a little away from the values to give you a flat face it's more obvious that there are two faces there.
This does mean you can, absolutely have two completely different textures (or two different offsets of the same texture etc.) apparently next to each other on the same face.
