Anyone know of an opensource jpeg2k image conversion utility for the PC? I'm just looking to gauge image quality/file sizes before upload/conversion.
Thanks.

A quick google search revealed a free jpeg2000 Photoshop plug-in by LEAD technologies, and a free stand alone converter utility called Xnview ( mong others). I haven't either one so I don't know if they're any good or not.

I can understand that. I have a few juno addresses I use for stuff like that. They're free, and they don't tend to get rejected by registrations the way hotmail and yahoo addresses sometimes do.

Try Google's Picasa. Also do a search for Irfanview, which has fantastic batch capabilities.
If you're using XP, you can also use the viewer that's built in to convert between I think bmp, jpg, and tiff, maybe gif. |

I second the suggestion of Irfanview. It's an indispensible freeware app. I don't think it has native jpeg2k capability but you can download plugins to add it. It's like a swiss army knife for file conversions.

Irfanview is a fantastic application. If you're looking for something command-line-oriented, you should give ImageMagick a look (www.imagemagick.org). ImageMagick also converts amongst a ton of different formats, and contains all manner of fiddly options for torturing images during the conversion process.

Irfanview is a fantastic application. I third (or 4th?) the IRFanview vote. It has a lot of neat features that are useful, including thumbnails. Among the many things I've used it for in the past have been screen captures from games that either didn't have screenshots or which defaulted to funky formats. Designating a screenshot hotkey in IRFanview, you can take screens from any other program you're running and it will automatically store it and sequentially number it wherever you want. SL has a good screenshot capability already, but this could add to one's flexibility. _____________________
