Greets, I have just recently started with SL and I've been looking forward into starting to make items and clothings, I have done some pixel graphics for 2d games in the past and I am rather fond of doing game items. So I am looking for tips, tools and other such items to help me get started in crafting and designing items and other such things for my SL lifestyle =)

Sincerely,
Zakka

The tutorials at spacethinkdream.com are excellent and might be a great place to start for the kinds of tips you are looking for.

Thanks Tinastar, I'll give it a shot. Also what type of tools does one use for custome objects and what not?

custom objects are all made with the in-game modeling tools using SL's selection of primitive objects. For texturing most people use photoshop, paintshop pro, or corel photopaint. For animations (coming in 1.4) you'd need poser 4 or 5 to make those, but in-game animation tools will be coming eventually.

Zakka...

Yes, all the new "models" are made inside the game interface with a built-in modelling program. It isn't quite as capable as 3D Studio MAX, or Maya, but it's free and not hard to use at all. If you are used to using Milkshape, MAX, Lightwave, etc...this will be a breeze for you after you get a handle on the interface itself.

You still need a capable paint program for textures, but as mentioned above, there are a number that can do the trick well, and if you have done this sort of things before, you likely have used one of them.

I will admit it's a buit different to have the mesh creator built in after using MAX and importing models, but it is surprisingly flexible from what I have seen so far.

And, as was mentioned, the next version of Second Life will allow us to import custom animations for your avatar from Poser 4 or 5 (and maybe Poser Artist), which will be much fun. :)
