Okay I made a real crude basic bikini and uploaded it, but it's just a texture - so then I try to put it on a shirt, but the shirt is white and even when I adjust the length it doesn't look right (white stripe across back and front) help pleeze :-D

Can you post a pic of what it looks like now? That'll give a better idea of what might be wrong. And by the way, welcome to SL! :)

Yep, that's how it's done.

Sounds to me like you don't have an Alpha channel. You need one, if you want the areas where you don't have your texture to be transparent.

I have a couple of video tutorials showing how to make one in Photoshop here. (Choose "Alpha Map Transparency" and "Lace Textures" from the menu on the left.) And there are lots and lots of threads dealing with the topic on this forum. It's got to be the single most-asked question.

To take a picture in Second Life, just click the "Snapshot" button at the bottom of the interface, and then click the "Save to Disk" button in the dialog that pops up. (Or something like that. I can't get into SL from this computer.)

To post an image here, you have to save it in .jpg format, and load it onto a website somewhere. (There are a number of free ones that allow you to post images, but I don't know where they are. Someone else will, I'm sure.)

Then just go to the image, copy the UR, come into a Reply to Thread dailog here in the forum, and click the little icon with a yellow background, and a mountain and sun (or jagged area at the bottom and little circle,) ninth from the left just above the place you type your replies here.

That will open a small dialog. Just paste the URL into the text field there, and the software here will take care of the rest of it for you.

Hope this helps!

You should be on the right track, yeah... to take a picture, you can just click the 'snapshot' button at the bottom of the screen, then 'save to disk' on the menu that comes up.

To attach a picture to a post, just go down to 'additional options' under the area where you write the post, click 'manage attachments' then 'browse' and choose the picture you saved... then just click upload, close the window and post. :)

If you're seeing white, even with the length adjusted, it may be a problem with the texture itself... maybe the background layer is still partly showing, or something like that.

The tutorial fixed it - I had made an alpha channel, but didn't bring it into the layer. Thanks! :-) :-)

You are very welcome. :D

As I said, it's the single most common problem around here.
