I went through that entire thread and finally got the master head, upper, lower and skirt templates. There is no master skin template it seems.. and the .jpg "skin" link looks like an advertisement, not an actual template. So I was a bit confused...
After trying on a couple demo skins in game and trying to figure out how you might get these 3 separate body templates onto one object you wear like "Female Shape and Outfit Skin" I started modifying as a noob, I finally got the idea to go back and look under my appearance *with* a demo skin on. It looks like these custom "skins" are actually just textures stuck in the tattoo slot....?? So, its not possible to wear a tattoo & a custom skin, unless you merge them and reupload them as one texture? (well I suppose I can stick the tattoo texture on mostly invisible undies/clothing, provided I dont want to wear undies or clothing with them ![]() Am I on the right track here? Is there a noob FAQ I missed somewhere that would have explained this faster than 2 days of poking around? More importantly is there some other major clue Im missing? ![]() - Inara PS. Dont need help with photoshop, paintshop etc, *just* SL-specifics on how things are done. |

sounds like you figured out.
also keep in mind, not only will you have to draw any needed tattoos on your skin texture (because you cant have both) you will also need to draw any makeup you want directly on the skin (because tattoos go over makeup for some reason i think) |

Try these ![]() I just found these earlier today chip, wanted to say thanks, they are way better than the linden made ones. I wanted to ask tho, do these work ok with male models too? they seem to be pretty breast-specific, but I'm hoping thats just for *if* its a female. (still at work so havent been home yet to test) |

You're correct. Custom full body skins are made of three textures... one for the head, upper body, and lower body. They use the same templates as clothing. Makeup can be added to custom skins but it has to be done by the skin maker. With the skins I sell, people can give me tattoos they want to use and I composite them onto the skin textures for them. Soon we should have more texture layers so that people can apply their own tatts to custom skins as if they were using a default skin. We might have it in 1.7 but that remains to be seen.

Yep, the mesh for the male and female avatars is exactly the same ![]() _____________________

Just for clarity...

If I've read the above right, 'skin' as purchased is an 'outfit' created by templates for the three tattoo slots (head, upper body, lower body). It doesn't replace the basic skin that your AV starts with, but rather goes over it.
I ask because I had the silly idea of replacing my skin with a transparency texture with alpha-blend, and then sticking a few particle generators inside my AV. I was also pondering the possibility of a 95% alpha-blend to make a 'soap bubble' AV, but it looks like this is not possible if skins work as suggested...A transparent 'skin' will just show the 'base' skin beneath it which is not modifiable (except via the in-game sliders). I am puzzled by this because I saw what was supposedly a screenshot of an AV which was nothing but spiraling ribbons for the arms, legs and torso, with an inverted cone where the head should have been. I cannot see any way this was achieved if the AV itself was not able to be rendered transparent. Help? |

What you saw was an av hidden by a special texture pair that hides alphaed textures "behind" it.
To get a sample of this texture pair and the script that keeps them fresh in-world several places. Check Beatfox Xevious' picks in his profile. _____________________
