Texture Rant

I would not be writing this rant were it not for 1.10.

You see, 1.10 introduced flexible prims. Suddenly I thought, great! I can finally make my ears floppy!

Problem. They only made the block, cylinder, and prism floppy...and the anchor point for the cylinder is only on the flat side, and I needed it on the round side.

I thought I was out of luck, then a thought it me. "Hey, doofus!" said the thought, "Why don't you simply make a texture of your ear and put it on the side of a floppy block?"

Well, great! That will work wonderfully!

Only, it didn't work wonderfully. I have spent the past four days tearing my hair out to attempt to make a very simple square texture, about 512x512 of a simple black circle sourrounded by alpha. Here's my problem:

Windows Paint won't do alpha channel.

The version of Photoshop Elements that came with my computer doesn't seem to do it, either. If it actually does, none of the tutorials given so far match what my version of Elements shows (which version? I have NO idea! Clicking on Help -> About Photoshop Elements does not give me a version number).

The Gimp does not come with help files, and their instructions for installing help files suck out the rear end, so I can't find out how to use it to create tga files with alpha.

Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro cost hundreds of dollars, and I sure as heck am not going to spend hundreds of dollars just to make my freaking ears floppy!!!!!

I have posted on the sticky thread, requesting help with Photoshop Elements, and such request seems to have been ignored.

So, now, I'm begging. Can some kind soul please make me a texture of a black circle, with alpha everywhere else so I can make my ears floppy?

You know, you'd think that Second Life would provide free software with instructions on this stuff....and animations too....

Actually, you can get Paint Shop Pro for about US$79. But I digress.

Holler at me in-world sometime and I will be glad to help you out.

There is free software but you prefer to be spoonfed. Maybe Linden Lab should send you a few instructors to your home instead?

Max, I will make it for you. I am not sure how big the black circle needs to be?

Some students at my university developed an excellent (Windows only) paint program that will do what you need.

http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/

Layers, brushes, filters, unlimited undo, plugin system, and it's all open source.
